Traders of Khadia and Gandhi Road staged a demonstration here on Thursday in protest against what they said was continuing extortion at the hands of goons backed by local politicians.
The demonstration was held at the Indulal Yagnik statue at the Nehru Bridge corner a day after they met state DGP Chitranjan Singh.
Earlier,they had met the city police commissioner to complain over the issue after a trader was beaten up last week allegedly for not meeting an extortion demand. Jagdish Khalsa,who is leading the campaign,said his brother,Surinder,was brutally beaten up by local goons who wanted money from him.
Local MLA Bhushan Bhatt denied the allegations. Let them prove it, he said.
