Three strike bank,decamp with Rs 1.94 lakh

The Amreli rural police are on the trail of three persons,who had allegedly looted the Bhavnagar District Cooperative Bank’s branch in Shalala village in Savarkundla taluka on Wednesday and decamped with money to the tune of Rs 1.94 lakh.

The police have registered an offence of loot against three unidentified persons.

The police said the three masked men had come on a motorcycle and wielded swords. They locked the cashier in a room and decamped with the cash.

According to the complaint registered by cashier Gautam Mehta,a man had come to the bank around 4.30 pm on Wednesday to deposit some money.

Ten minutes later,three men arrived on a black-coloured motorcycle. While one of them had a helmet on,the other two covered their faces with scarves and were armed with swords.

Mehta had to give away the keys of the locker after they threatened to kill him,he said in his complaint.

The police said it’s a small branch with only three people as staff,including Mehta,the branch manager and a peon. The Amreli police said at the time of the incident,the manager had gone out while the peon was on leave.
