The state police claimed to have specific inputs that three Indian Mujahiddeen (IM) militants, wanted in connection with the Ahmedabad serial blasts, have reportedly sneaked into Ahmedabad. An alert has been sounded across the state.

“The three are suspected to be the accused wanted for the 2008 serial blasts. They may be planning a terror strike, according to the inputs the state IB has received. There were indications that the three may be hiding in the Amraiwadi area and we did a door-to-door check. However,we have fresh alerts that they may have slipped out of the area. We have therefore extended the alert across the state,” DGP Chitranjan Singh said.

According to sources, the state IB input said the three wanted IM men are Abdul Subhan Usman Qureshi,Mujeeb Sheikh and Alamzeb Afridi. “We will increase the visibility of uniformed policemen, especially during the Kankaria Carnival and upcoming VGGIS Summit. We have also put up 44 CCTV cameras and X-ray machines at all the entry points to the carnival,” the DGP added.

Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been asked to patrol. Bomb Disposal teams have also been put on alert for the next three weeks and the leaves of all police officers in the state have been cancelled till January 15.
