Three held for kidnapping senior citizen

Based on the tip-off,the Crime Branch formed a special team to track down the abductors.

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested three persons,who had allegedly kidnapped and conspired to kill a retired bank employee.

The victim,Abhayshankar Upadhyay (61),a retired branch manager of Bank of India,was kidnapped from his residence on Monday. The Crime Branch had received a tip-off that the abductors wanted to kill him.

Based on the tip-off,the Crime Branch formed a special team to track down the abductors.

They were identified as Balram Sukhlal,a jewellery box maker from Gwalior in MP; Ankit Shah,a utensils dealer from Limbdi in Surendranagar; and Dinesh Mewasa,an auto-rickshaw driver from Rajasthan.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) AK Sharma said,“We received a tip-off that a senior bank manager had been kidnapped and confined in a flat in Vejalpur area of the city. One of the inspectors from the crime branch was alerted.”

The accused have been booked under Section 364 (a) for kidnapping and ransom,342 for wrongful confinement and 120 (B) for criminal conspiracy of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
