Three arrested for making and selling illegal mephedrone drugs in Gujarat

File photoGujarat Anti Terrorist Squad officials arrested three persons, including an electrical engineer, involved in manufacturing and selling illegal mephedrone (MD) drugs from a factory in Surat’s Palsana taluka. Police seized MD worth Rs. 51.409 crores from the factory.
Acting on a tip off, ATS officials raided a factory in Kareli village of Palsana taluka, late on Wednesday night, arresting Vijay Gajera (38) and Sunil Yadav (38) on the spot. Police seized 4 kg of MD in the form of crystal cubes and 31.409 kg in the form of liquid.
During interrogation, the duo disclosed the name of the third accused identified as 28-year-old Haresh Korat. Later, Junagadh Local Crime branch officials arrested Korat.
The three were produced in the Palsana Civil Court on Thursday afternoon.
Deputy Superintendent of Police S L Chaudhary said, “Gajera has been involved in the chemical trading business for the last five years in Surat. He came in contact with Yadav who was trading chemicals in Vapi. They jointly planned and worked out the procedure of making Mephedrone drugs. They also took the help of Haresh Korat, whose job was to search for customers.”
Chaudhary added that the three accused had rented out a metal sheet shed and procured raw materials used to make the drugs. They confessed to selling 4 kg of MD to a person in Mumbai identified as Salim Saiyed.
“Presently, the arrested men have confessed that they started the business one and half months ago, but we doubt this statement,” he said.
