Reiterating his demand to remove members from the party who are the "B team" or have allegedly aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Gujarat Congress Working President and Vadgam MLA Jignesh Mevani on Sunday hit out at the party leadership. “Remove those who are not for the party. Why are you not removing them, why taking this disgrace? Remove them from the party so that this ends, the party gets clean and we together make the party strong, make Visavadar and Kadi seats strong.” Taking to X, Mevani also reacted to remarks made by AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal who had alleged that the Congress serves the BJP, and not the public. Mevani instead claimed that the Congress is fighting against the BJP, Sangh and corrupt bureaucrats. “Arvind Kejriwal said that the Gujarat Congress is not serving the public, but the BJP. This is nonsense. You (Kejriwal) will return after four days, but the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) soldiers have been fighting since 25-30 years against the BJP and Sangh from taluka to district level. They are fighting against the corrupt bureaucrats. Our members at taluka and district levels are strong and have been even sent behind bars,” he said in a video message on the social media platform on Sunday. Meamwhile, GPCC spokesperson Manish Doshi told this paper, “He should raise whatever issues he has with the party or its leaders on an appropriate platform, within the party. He is a leader and the working president too. He should avoid making such statements at this time (ahead of Visavadar and Kadi by-elections) and focus on strengthening the party.” Earlier on Saturday, Mevani had taken to X and expressed displeasure, stating: “Even leaders from the opposition partiers are saying that your arsenal is full of inefficient members. Why hesitate? Unload them. What are you waiting for? The B team, those spent cartridges, the ones aligning with the enemy camp — what is the pain in getting rid of them? If not mine, at least heed Rahul (Gandhi) ji’s advice.”
