Temple, idol of Gorakhnath on Girnar Hill in Gujarat vandalised, police begin probe

Junagadh police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons for vandalising a temple and idol of Lord Gorakshnath on the Girnar Hill.

According to police, the temple is situated at the height of around 5,000 steps on the Girnar Hill in Junagadh district. Following a complaint from the monk of the temple, an FIR has been registered at Bhavnath police station.

According to police, the head of the marble statue was broken, while the glass door of the temple as well as other objects were damaged.

Junagadh Superintendent of Police S R Odedara said, “The temple is situated at a height of around 5,000 steps on the hill. We have registered an offence against unidentified persons for vandalism. Different police teams of Bhavnath police station, Local Crime Branch and Special Operations Group are investigating the case”

“We are looking into every possible aspect in the case,” he said without divulging further details of the investigation.

The hill, also known as Revatak Parvata, is covered with Jain and Hindu temples, and pilgrims have to climb up to 10,000 stone steps to the summit.
