Swimmer qualifies for Asian Games 2023

The TOPS (Target Olympic Podium Scheme) athlete recorded personal best times in all four events he participated in the TYR PRO SWIM SERIES held at Westmont near Chicago, USA.

Nineteen-year-old swimmer Aryan Nehra from Ahmedabad who trains at the University of Florida at Gainesville has qualified to participate in the Asian Games to be held in September this year.

The TOPS (Target Olympic Podium Scheme) athlete recorded personal best times in all four events he participated in the TYR PRO SWIM SERIES held at Westmont near Chicago, USA.

On Sunday, Nehra clocked 15:29.92 in the 1500 freestyle against his earlier best of 15:38. He also made the B cut for the World Championships to be held in July in Japan. The Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China.

Nehra had already qualified for the 800 freestyle for both the major swimming competitions in 2023. In the 800 freestyle, Nehra recorded a reduction of 6.5 seconds in his personal best time to complete race in 8:03.15.

He also put up a noteworthy performance in the 400 metre Freestyle with a new PB of 3:56.17 which is the third fastest time by any Indian swimmer.

In the 400 individual medley, he clocked 4:28.50, a new personal best for him. This is the second fastest time by an Indian swimmer. Nehra is now the top ranked swimmer in India in 800, 1500 Free and 400 IM as per the rankings of World Aquatics.
