A death audit committee of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s (VMC) health department will investigate the death of a suspected H3N2 patient at the SSG Hospital on Tuesday.

According to officials, the 58-year-old patient was admitted to SSG after being referred from a private hospital, where she had undergone the rapid test for H3N2 and tested positive. The woman had reported symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection, including cold and cough, accompanied by fever, on March 11.

Resident Medical Officer, SSG, Dr DK Helaiya said, “The patient had come with a report from the private hospital on March 11… We will not be able to confirm if the death was due to H3N2 as the same will be done by the audit committee of the VMC…”

According to VMC Medical Officer for Health, Dr Devesh Patel, the woman was tested with a kit that was not ICMR-approved. “We cannot go by the report of the test kit used in this case… The death audit committee will file its conclusive report in the case but the patient can only be termed as a suspected case.” At present, SSG has one patient each of H3N2 and influenza A virus, according to the hospital.
