Students not to get school leaving certificate,if fail to pay fees

The Ahmedabad District Education Officer (DEO) has asked the private schools not to issue leaving certificates (LC) to the wards of diamond workers,if they fail to pay their school fees.

The Ahmedabad District Education Officer (DEO) has asked the private schools not to issue leaving certificates (LC) to the wards of diamond workers,if they fail to pay their school fees.

Agreeing on this, the schools authorities said they are ready to cooperate in this matter. “The number of such students — who have not paid up fees — are in thousands. The schools will not able to afford such kind of waive-off for a long time. But we are sure that the state government will make some policy to support both the diamond workers and schools,” said P B Gadhvi,District Education Officer (DEO),Ahmedabad.

Ashok Punjabi, president of the Gujarat State Diamond Workers Cell, said: “We have prepared a form and are asking the diamond workers to fill up the forms who are not able to pay fees of their children.

“On an average, students pay Rs 600 as their fees. We have been demanding that the schools, state government and the Centre should equally share the responsibility to pay the fees. Till now,we have filled up 30,000 such forms and more workers are coming ahead,” Punjabi added.
