After more than 24 hours,the fire officials have been struggling to douse the fire that broke out in a cold storage at Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) in Dehgam taluka of Gandhinagar district on Thursday evening. They said cold storage was stuffed with dry spices like red chillies.
The cold storage caught fire due to some unknown reason,fire officials said,adding,20 fire tenders were deployed to fight the blaze.
There was no facility of water refilling near the spot and the vehicles had to go back to city area to fetch water, a senior fire official said.
According to Dehgam police inspector M H Shaikh,by Friday evening one portion of cold storage was completely burnt. He said that it was a massive fire which might cause destruction of spices worth in crores.
