The villages under Rajkot Urban Development Authority (RUDA) will soon get water supply and underground drainage system,indirectly helping industrial estates to get non-potable water.
The schemes have been designed keeping in mind further expansion of the city that leads to merger of rural areas.
With grant of Rs 121 crore for underground drainage (UGD) schemes and Rs 39 crore for water supply provided under Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Seheri Vikas Yojana (SJMMSVY),a group of 14 fast developing villages have been selected for both the schemes.
Most of these villages that fall under the schemes are located in Rajkot taluka and on the outskirts of the city. These villages may see merger into city area with further expansion of Rajkot.
In underground drainage schemes,trunk sewer lines will be laid to collect the sewage from villages under RUDA. Sewage Treatment Plants are planned in three locations Shapar-Veraval Industrial estate,Metoda GIDC and in northern part of RUDA.
Purpose the of the plants near industrial estate is to reuse the treated sewage water for non-potable industrial use. This will ease the burden of haphazard disposal of sewage water in streams and will help to provide better liable environment to people, said RUDA chairman and RMC Commissioner Ajay Bhadoo.
Once operation get started,the industrial estate will get around 30 MLD water per day.
The schemes have been designed considering next 30 years and for which consultants are appointed. Locations of various pumping stations including ESR and GSR are under process. With completion of pilot projects,more villages will be incorporated under the scheme.
At present,RUDA covers 54 villages in five talukas of Rajkot district.
Meanwhile,in 27 villages,RUDA has also initiated solid waste management project. After collection of solid waste,it is planned to dispose it of scientifically in engineering landfill site after segregation and treatment.
