An undertrial lodged in the Morbi Sub Jail fled when he was allegedly asked to go and work at the incharge jailor’s residence on Sunday. Amarsinsh Magan,a migrant labourer and a rape accused from Wankaner was lodged in Morbi Sub Jail since May. On Sunday,In-charge Jailor Jayesh Joshi sent Magan to his house to clean the back verandah.

He asked Suresh Solanki, who was on duty at the main gate then,to drop Magan at his house. Solanki allegedly went to drop Magan at Joshi’s house around 11.30 am and came back to his duty at the main gate. Around 1 pm,he went to get the prisoner back, who had fled by then. The Morbi police have now lodged a complaint on the instructions of SP (Prisons) V Pargi and begun investigations. Though the incident occurred on Sunday, the complaint was registered two days later. Investigating Officer Inspector R Amrelia said there is prima facie evidence against Joshi and Solanki, but they have registered an offence under Section 224 of the IPC. Further sections will be added as the investigation proceeds,he said.
