Row over pvt institutes on GU campus: Govt to stand by students

The state government has decided to protect the interests of students over Gujarat University allowing private groups to launch self-financed five-year integrated skill development courses

The state government has decided to protect the interests of students over Gujarat University allowing private groups to launch self-financed five-year integrated skill development courses from its premises from the current academic session. The matter reached the state government after some lobbies in the private education sector objected to GU vice-chancellor Adesh Pal permitting some other groups to use the varsity’s infrastructure to run the self-financed courses.

State Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma said,“A decision will be taken keeping in view the larger interests of the students as well as the university.” He said he had discussed the matter in detail with the V-C. Pal had allowed the private educational groups as per MoUs they had signed with the state government in 2011 and 2013.

Previously, the private parties were to run postgraduate courses only in various disciplines. Pal,however, asked them to run a five-year integrated course in 15 skill development fields, with other provisions in MoUs remaining intact. But some private groups running the same courses from their own institutes reportedly objected.
