To protest ‘injustice’ and ‘discrimination’ against people from Other Backward Classes (OBC), Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Classes, and minority communities in the state, a Swabhiman Dharana programme was held at Satyagrah Chhavani in Gandhinagar Tuesday under the aegis of OBC Jan Adhikar Samiti (OJAS).
In the public meeting that was attended by senior Congress leaders like Amit Chavda, Shaktisinh Gohil, Jagdish Thakor, Arjun Modhwadia, Lalji Desai, and Jignesh Mevani various demands of the people from OBC, SC, ST, and minority communities were put forward.
These demands include a caste-based census, publication of the report of Justice (retired) K S Jhaveli Commission and providing 27 per cent reservation to OBC communities in elections of local bodies, 27 per cent allocation of funds for OBC in the budget, and formation of OBC Sub Plan and implementation of reservation in cooperative institutes for Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste, OBC, and minorities.
A press statement from the office of Chavda stated that in the corporations formed for the welfare of SC, ST, OBC, and minorities, Rs 166 crore is being allocated. Against that, it added, the corporation for the welfare of 18 per cent of non-reserved communities is being allocated Rs 500 crore. This, it added, is nothing but injustice and discrimination.
Chavda added that to protest such injustice and discriminatory policy of the state government, SC, ST, OBC and minority communities will convene a Maha Panchayat.
