Officers of Sayajigunj police station in Vadodara city on Monday arrested a 20-year-old man, who is said to be a religious scholar of his community, for allegedly filming a 28-year-old woman while she was bathing in her apartment.
The alleged incident occurred on April 4, when the complainant was at her apartment in a government housing society in Kalyan Nagar. The woman, who is the complainant in the case, said that she had spotted a camera outside the ventilation window while bathing. She alerted her mother-in-law, who allegedly saw the accused fleeing.
Police said that the accused, identified as Haroon Pathan (20), had allegedly been “keeping a watch” and was spotted outside the bathroom in the CCTV footage of the complex.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, A Division, D J Chavda said, “We have lodged an FIR as per the woman’s complaint and arrested the accused. Given the gravity of the case, we conducted a ‘panchnama’ of the place and evidence has been collected. Pathan was also spotted in the CCTV (footage) trying to peek inside the bathroom on the date of the incident at the time mentioned by the complainant… We suppose he was keeping a watch and knew when the victim had entered the bathroom.”
Chavda said that Pathan works at a fabrication unit and is a “religious scholar”, as per locals. “The locals have identified him as a religious scholar, who is pursuing his higher studies in Theology…We have seized his mobile phone, which was used to film the video and sent the same to the FSL.”
