Days after a massive fire at Rajkot’s TRP Game Zone killed 27 people, including children, the family of one of the co-owners has reported him missing, Rajkot District Collector Prabhav Joshi said on Tuesday. So far, the identities of 19 of the 27 victims have been confirmed after DNA tests. The delay has been attributed to the challenge of taking samples from bodies charred beyond recognition, among other factors.

Prakash Hiran, who is also among the six TRP Game Zone partners facing charges of culpable homicide (not amounting to murder) over the tragedy, was reported missing by his family on Tuesday.

Joshi said, “Hiran’s brother came to Rajkot yesterday (from Vadodara) and said his brother is not traceable. After that, Prakash’s mother gave DNA samples, which we have sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Gandhinagar”.

“Now, we have three missing persons, three unidentified bodies and some other human remains. Whether the human remains belong to Prakash Hiran, to one or more victims already identified or to someone else… it will be clear once DNA test reports are available.”

So far, the Gandhinagar FSL had only 24 samples and got three samples on Tuesday as the family members were away, confirmed authorities.

Samples of family members of missing people from UP’s Gorakhpur, Ahmedabad and the the United States were collected Tuesday. Akshay Dholariya, who was working in Canada and whose parents are settled in the US, 17-year-old Monu Gaur, whose family came from UP to give samples, and Hiran are on the missing persons’ list.  Dholariya’s wife and sister-in-law also died in the fire. But their bodies were identified.

Union minister and BJP Rajkot Lok Sabha candidate Parshottam Rupala visited the Rajkot Civil Hospital  on Tuesday afternoon, along with Rajya Sabha MP Rambhai Mokaria to meet the families of the victims.

“Suspensions (of government officials) are a part of the required action but not the final result. The SIT (Special Investigation Team) has been formed to probe the incident. Strict action will be taken against those responsible,” Rupala said.
