Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel, who suffered a brain stroke on February 10, was discharged from a Rajkot hospital Thursday after his health improved, doctors said.

Patel had suffered a brain stroke while he was attending an event in his home town of Jamnagar on February 10 and was referred to Synergy Superspeciality Hospital after receiving primary treatment at a government hospital in Jamnagar. The minister has been undergoing treatment at the Rajkot hospital since then.

“When he was brought here, he was semi-conscious and his left limbs had been paralysed as he had suffered a major brain stroke. We had admitted him to the ICU and a team of doctors, including neurosurgeon, neurologist, cardiologist, intensivist, physiotherapist, speech therapist, etc. Thankfully, Raghavjibhai responded well to the treatment and over time, his health improved a lot. Today, we have discharged him from hospital in a very stable condition,” neurosurgeon Dr Sanjay Tialal, who was among the doctors treating Patel, told media persons Thursday, adding, “He has started taking food orally, has started walking with support and his memory is normal”.

Dr Tilala said Patel will continue receiving physiotherapy and speech therapy at his home as a further course of treatment.
