Probe panel submits report,VUDA top officials unaware

The commission set up by the state government to probe into the twin building crash on August 28 in Madhavnagar colony of Atladara has submitted its report.

The commission set up by the state government to probe into the twin building crash on August 28 in Madhavnagar colony of Atladara has submitted its report. However,it has not yet been made public.

The Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) has already announced a new scheme of housing project under public-private-partnership to rehabilitate the affected families on the same land.

VUDA officials are unaware that the committee, headed by former bureaucrat Manjula Subramaniam, has completed its probe.

When contacted,VUDA chairperson N V Patel and Chief Executive J V Patel drew a blank about the findings of the probe panel.

The Congress has demanded the report be made public so that people know the real reason behind the government’s decision to pull down the sub-standard structures.

Subramaniam has submitted a letter to Principal Secretary G R Aloria of the state Urban Development department.

Subramaniam said this in a faxed response to Vadodara city Congress president Narendra Ravat, who sent a letter to her on Tuesday, demanding an inquiry into the subsequent building collapses in Madhavnagar.

In her reply to Ravat, she said,“I have completed the probe in relation to the crash of buildings 10 and 11,and handed over my findings to the Urban Development Department,Gandhinagar

Subramaniam, however, refused to disclose the details of her report.

Ravat said,“What kind of a probe is this where the VUDA,which is under investigation, goes about destroying all evidence of the sub-standard construction, which killed 11 people,in the name of redevelopment while the findings of the probe are not even made known to public? The fact that Subramaniam has simply raised her hands about the probe on the quality of construction of other buildings shows that the probe was only an eye-wash.”

When contacted by The Indian Express,Subramaniam refused to comment on the report.

Aloria too was unavailable for comment.
