Stones were pelted at a Vande Bharat train on board which Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi was travelling on the outskirts of Rajkot late Thursday evening. No one was injured in the incident.

However, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has registered a case and begun a probe. “Unidentified persons pelted stones at the Vande Bharat train 22925 that runs in our division and was between Bileshwar and Rajkot, some four km away from Rajkot. Not many stones were pelted but small cracks developed in the windows of C4 and C5 coaches. However, no passenger was injured,” Pawan Kumar Shrivastava, divisional security commissioner of Rajkot division, told media persons. The incident took place around 8.40 pm Thursday. The minister was travelling from Ahmedabad to Rajkot.

“Prima facie, we don’t believe that the Vande Bharat train was targeted because the Home Minister was on board it. However, we are investigating the case from all angles,” Shrivastava said, adding that children have often been found involved in pelting stones at trains at night in the region.

He said the RPF was immediately alerted about the incident. “The Home Minister was not travelling in the affected coaches.
