The Gujarat CID (Crime),which is investigating into the Tulsi Prajapati fake encounter case, has approached Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for preserved data of mobile phone records of some state police officers.
The investigating agency has written to BSNL after realising that a compact disc (CD) in its possession – containing phone call records of the concerned police officers – has been tampered with. The data in the CD were compiled by the investigating officers.
While CID (Crime) chief V V Rabari refused to comment, sources in the agency said that some data in the CD have been consciously deleted by somebody. To ascertain this and find out the deleted data, the agency has written to BSNL,asking for preserved data of certain mobile phone numbers.
Prajapati was killed in a fake encounter near Ambaji in Banaskantha district in December 2006. The incident had taken place when some Rajasthan Police officials were taking him to present in a court for hearing in Gujarat.
The CID has arrested six police officials, including the then Banaskantha Superintendent of Police Vipul Aggarwal,in connection with the case.
