The Punjab National Bank (PNB) achieved the target of opening hundred per cent accounts in Mera village of Dasada taluka in Surendranagar district on Wednesday under its financial inclusion programme. A K Roy Choudhary,deputy general manager,PNB Ahmedabad circle,told reporters on Thursday that hundred per cent accounts would also be opened in Borana village of Limbdi taluka and Chaukdi village of Chuda taluka in Surendranagar district on Friday. Six thousand accounts will be opened in Chaukdi and 1,800 in Borana to achieve this,he said,adding that the bank had donated spare computers in primary schools of these villages. The bank has set a target of doing business of Rs 10,000 crore in Gujarat by March 2010 against the current level of Rs 8,091 crore by March this year. He said the deposits had gone up by 26.70 per cent at Rs 4,278 crore and advances by 30.6 per cent at Rs 3,729 crore by March this year. The bank has 92 branches in Gujarat as of now and another eight will be opened by the end of 2009-10, Choudhary said. Of these,two would be in Rajkot and one in Savli town of Vadodara district.
