PMJAY case: Registration of Khyati Hospital cardiologist suspended for 3 yrs

The Gujarat Medical Council on Thursday said it has suspended the medical registration of Dr Prashant Vazirani, the visiting Cardiologist at Khyati Multispeciality Hospital in Ahmedabad, for a period of three years. This action comes in light of Dr Prashant Vazirani’s arrest as well as blacklisting from the PMJAY following accusations of performing “completely unnecessary” angioplasty surgeries on several beneficiaries of the scheme from Borisana village of Mehsana, two of which died on November 11.

The GMC, in its suspension order, noted that it had taken suo motu cognizance of the incident in addition to a request from the Medical Services division of the Gujarat health department.

The GMC stated that it had taken into account the report by the expert medical committee and had heard the reply of Dr Prakash Vazirani, who is Dr Prashant Vazirani’s father.

The order stated that all his medical registrations, including MBBS and MD in General Medicine, DNB in General Medicine, and DNB in Cardiology, would be removed from the register of medical practitioners for a period of three years, pursuant to the resolution passed by the Executive Committee and General Body of the GMC.

Dr Prashant Vazirani is facing charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, attempt at culpable homicide, and several other sections of the law in three FIRs filed in this case — one on behalf of the state government and two filed by the families of the deceased persons, Mahesh Girdhar Barot (52) and Nagar Moti Senma (75).

Dr Prashant Vazirani was arrested on November 13 and is currently in judicial custody.

Meanwhile, the Crime Branch, which is investigating the case, carried out reconstruction of the crime scene along with the five accused who were arrested on November 26. Director Chirag Rajput, CEO Rahul Jain, and three members of the marketing team — Milind Patel, Pratik Bhatt and Pankil Patel — are in a 4-day police remand till December 1.
