Four persons booked for tying man to pole, assaulting him over PMAY complaint in Narmada: Police
According to the FIR, the complainant Dipak Tukaram Koli of Selamba village had lodged a complaint with the district administration alleging corruption in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

A man and three women have been booked and issued notices by the police for allegedly thrashing a man and tying him to a pole in Gujarat’s Narmada district, said officials on Monday. The incident, according to police, happened in the district’s Sagbara taluka on August 28 after a dispute over the victim’s complaint about a government housing scheme. The Sagbara police have lodged an FIR for criminal intimidation, insult and assault against the accused.
According to the FIR, the complainant Dipak Tukaram Koli of Selamba village had lodged a complaint with the district administration alleging corruption in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). He had submitted a written application in the matter. Following his representation to the administration, the complainant alleged that the women — who are members of the panchayat of Selamba village — called him for a meeting. Koli alleged that when he arrived for the meeting, a group of women allegedly started chasing and assaulting him. They chased him until a pole in a public area, where he was tied and allegedly assaulted, said the police.
While videos of the incident also became public, the Sagbara police booked the three women —Vishakha Tadvi, Kanchan Tadvi and Hansa Tadvi along with Divyesh Tadvi. In his complaint Koli stated, “They abused me and started punching me… They dragged me and then tied me to a pole and assaulted me. My family is not safe…”
The FIR has been lodged under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita Sections for voluntarily causing hurt (115), criminal intimidation (351), intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace (352), and wrongful confinement (127). When contacted, Narmada District Superintendent of Police Vishakha Dabral said that following the guidelines of a Supreme Court verdict, the police had not arrested the accused in connection with the case but instead served a compliance notice for cooperation in the investigation.
“We have conducted a probe and issued notices to the accused to cooperate in the probe as per the guidelines of the SC verdict since the sections in the case are those which prescribe punishment of under seven years…,” said Dabral.
“We have also taken preventive action against the women by initiating chapter proceedings (a precautionary notice and bond for good behaviour in the future)… The investigation has revealed that the victim was disgruntled as his own application had not been accepted under the scheme. The women and the victim had a verbal spat, in which they alleged that he used unparliamentary words and provoked them to assault him… We have booked the FIR accordingly and launched a probe,” added SP Dabral.
