Nearly two months after the completion of arguments at the justices (retired) G T Nanavati and Akshay Mehta Commission on an application seeking to summon Chief Minister Narendra Modi and six others in connection with the Godhra Train Carnage and the subsequent riots,no orders have been issued yet.
Mukul Sinha from Jan Sangharsh Manch, which is fighting the legal battle for the riot-affected people, had filed an application in 2007 demanding to summon Modi, his cabinet colleagues and office staff in 2002 and a senior IPS officer over their alleged dubious conduct during the riots.
Besides Modi, the others named in the application include the then Minister of State for Home Gordhan Zadafia, the then Health Minister and incumbent Speaker of the Assembly,Ashok Bhatt,IPS officer R J Savani and three employees of the CM office in 2002.
When the matter did not come up for hearing till 2009,Sinha filed a reminder before the Commission this May. Advocate General Kamal Trivedi appeared before the Commission on behalf of the state government, opposing the application, saying that Sinha has levelled baseless charges. The arguments on the application were over on July 15,2009 and the Commission had reserved its order.
