One person was arrested by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Tuesday night for allegedly forging documents and staying in the city with a fake identity. The police will produce Anilsingh Chaudhary (39) before the magistrate court on Wednesday seeking his custody.

The police said that Anilsingh was found using the name of ‘Rajkumar Vijayakumar Chaudhary’, who, according to the Rakab Ganj police station in Agra, had died in an accident in the city on July 31, 2006. However, it later came to light that Anilsingh and his father had planned the accident, in which a begger had died.

According to a statement issued by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, two years before the accident, Anilsingh and his father had purchased an accidental death insurance policy. They also bought a car, which was insured six months before the accident.

As per the police, Anilsingh roped in a beggar, fed him and made him sit in the car on the day of the accident. He and his father then crashed the car along with the beggar, leading to his death.

The statement said that after the accident, the police contacted Anilsingh’s father, who identified the body as that of Anilsingh’s and performed his last rites. The family then claimed the insurance amount of Rs 80 lakh.

The police said that following Inspector Mitesh Trivedi receiving information that Anilsingh was living at Divya Residency in Nikol, a raid was conducted at his residence and he was arrested. During interrogation, Anilsingh confessed to his real identity.

A resident of Gautam Buddh Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh, Anilsingh had arrived in Gujarat in 2006 and secured a driving license, Aadhaar card and PAN card on the name of Rajkumar Vijayakumar Chaudhary.

According to the statement, Anilsingh never contacted his family members over the phone after 2006 and would only meet them in Delhi or Surat.

Inspector Mitesh Trivedi said, “The accused used to drive a rickshaw in Ahmedabad on rent after getting his driving licence… he also bought a rickshaw on loan, got married and purchased a car after getting the insurance money. His family, including his father, brother and his two friends, have claimed Rs 80 lakh (as insurance money).”

“The Agra Police had registered an accidental death case. Now, it will be converted into a murder case and we will hand over Anilsingh to them. We have registered a fake document case in Ahmedabad against Anilsingh,” he added.

Anilsingh has been booked under sections 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code.
