On Day 2 of new session, 24 schools still sealed in Surat
In Surat, over 200 self-financed schools were sealed.

At least 24 self-financed schools in Surat are still sealed even as the new academic session entered the second day on Friday. In the aftermath of the Rajkot game zone tragedy, which killed children among 27 last month, hundreds of schools were sealed across the state amid a wide crackdown over the non-possession of fire NOCs (no-objection certificates), building use certificates (BUCs) or renewals of NOCs.
In Surat, over 200 self-financed schools were sealed. However, ahead of the end of summer vacation, the municipal corporation allowed the reopening of 176 schools as they submitted affidavits on getting NOCs and BUCs in stipulated time periods.
The schools that continue to be sealed are in Varachha, Udhna and Limbayat areas.
Speaking with The Indian Express, Savjibhai Hun, president of the self-financed schools association, said, “We have come across 24 schools in different parts of the city, which did not have BUCs or fire NOCs. We helped them to overcome the challenge. The education of thousands of students should not be affected.”
Officials at the Surat District Education Office (DEO) said that they were also helping the schools to get the affidavits filed. Surat DEO Bhagirathsinh Parmar could not be reached for a comment.
