On 23rd anniversary of Gujarat riots, children of slain former Congress MP Ahsan Jafri visit Gulberg Society
The ex-Parliamentarian was among the 68 people killed in the Ahmedabad housing society during the riots that followed Godhra train-burning in 2002

The children of former Congress MP Ahsan Jafri and his wife Zakia Jafri visited the ruins of their home in Gulberg Society on Friday, marking the 23rd anniversary of the riots. The Jafris’ daughter Nishrin and son Tanveer visited the society and their home along with other former residents of the complex.
The former Parliamentarian was among the 68 people killed in Gulberg Society, which came under attack in the riots that broke out in the state after the Sabarmati Express train-burning in Godhra on February 27, 2002, in which 59 persons, mostly kar sevaks returning from Ayodhya, were killed.
Earlier this year, on February 1, Zakia Jafri died of age-related issues in Ahmedabad.
Meanwhile, a demonstration was organised by the Movement for Secular Democracy (MSD) at Town Hall Cross Road, Ahmedabad, demanding peace, harmony and justice. Activist and convener of MSD Prakash N Shah, who was among the participants, paid tributes to Zakia Jafri calling her a “symbol of the fight for justice”, a statement from the organisation said.
