After A month and half, offline secondary classes with an overall attendance of 75 per cent resumed on Tuesday at a private school in the Maninagar area of Ahmedabad. On the first day of offline education since August 20 for Classes IX and XI, an attendance of 50 per cent was reported while 95 per cent students of Class 10 and 12 turned up at the school. Around 170 students out of 400 attended Class XI (Science) while 396 of 747 students were present in Class IX. The overall attendance stood at 75 per cent. Teaching was suspended at the school on August 20, a day after a Class X student allegedly stabbed his classmate to death outside the school. “On parents' demands, it was decided to resume Class IX and XI after taking due care of students' safety,” Ahmedabad (city) DEO Rohit Chaudhary told The Indian Express. On Sunday (October 5), offline education for Class X and XII was resumed after permission from the District Education Officer and amid heavy police deployment around the campus and a strengthened CCTV coverage of the school campus. Regular classes were suspended after major protests by parents though later on parents' demand the school started online classes for Classes X and XII. On the basis of the DEO report, primary classes at the school with an enrollment of nearly 9500 run in ICSE and Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) are likely to start in the coming weeks.
