Eight students were detained after members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) protested against the non-declaration of entrance examination marks for admission to the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) programme by Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara Sunday. The detainees were later released by the Fatehgunj police station. “We were informed by the university authorities that some students were protesting, shouting slogans and disturbing the ongoing examination at the university. Eight students who were protesting outside the BBA faculty were detained but they were released soon,” A P Gadhavi PI Fatehgunj police station confirmed. “The BBA merit list declared Saturday evening did not have the marks bit, but only seat numbers of candidates. When the university used to declare marks earlier, what is the reason it was not done this time? This clearly indicates corruption and malpractices in the admission process at the university level,” NSUI Vadodara president Amar Vaghela told The Indian Express. Nearly 4,160 candidates had registered for the entrance exam conducted on June 5 for 240 seats. NSUI also protested against the university’s haste in conducting the interviews and further admission processes stating that students were asked to report Sunday at 8.30 am, which would be almost impossible for students coming from other districts and distant places.
