For the first time in the state,Vadodara police will introduce women traffic brigade to assist the traffic police in the city. The women traffic brigade is an initiative of the Traffic Education Trust (TET),which has already introduced the traffic brigade jawans. According to officials at the Vadodara traffic police department, the first batch of the mahila brigade will start taking its training in a weeks time. The initiative has been taken to help the traffic department lacks the required strength to manage the traffic scenario in the city. We face the shortfall in the number of the traffic personnel across the city and for the same reason the TET was made functional. In the first batch,150 traffic brigade jawans were inducted and they have already started working in close association with our department officials to control the traffic. However, while planning about the second batch,we decided to induct female members as well, said Assistant Commissioner of Police,Traffic,N C Patel. While Surat police was the first in the state to introduce the concept of public private partnership to solve traffic issues,Vadodara will become the first city to introduce the mahila brigade. The intention behind recruiting women candidates for traffic is to bring in the sense of discipline. While there are women constables and officials who are in our department,we have noticed that as compared to their male counterparts they are more diligent towards their work. The new brigade will be crucial for imbibing the sense of responsibility among the department personnel, Patel informed. Significantly, absenteeism among the traffic brigade jawans has turned out to be a major issue as more than 50 per cent of the jawans inducted for the purpose are reportedly not serious about their job and remain absent. On the other hand,in Surat,at the most 10 out of 200 traffic brigade jawans remain absent on an average. The training of women personnel will be same as of male brigade. Patel said,We are planning to start the training for the new batch in the next week. There will not be any difference in the training planned for male and female candidates.
