New policy fails to erase diamond industry’s woes

A diamond polisher was caught recently by the police for committing theft in an apparel showroom at Puna Gam. In another incident,two diamond polishers were caught by Valsad police for their alleged involvement in ferrying IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) consignment to Surat from Daman in a car,said police sources.

According to case details,two persons broke open the shutter of Jayshree Sarees and Dress Materials shop in Vijay Complex at Puna Gam on Sunday night. The security guard of the building informed the police about the theft. The duo tried to escape but was caught by the police after a small chase. The police recovered a screw driver,hacksaw blades,and other tools from their possession. The arrested persons were later identified as Mahesh Koli and Mukesh Patel,both residents of Matawadi in Varachha.

After primary investigation,the police said that Mahesh had been arrested earlier also for his involvement in theft cases,while Mukesh worked in a diamond unit at Varachha before losing his job.

In another incident,two unemployed diamond polishers travelling in a car were stopped by Valsad police near Parnera village in Valsad district on National Highway No 8,on Sunday evening. Acting on prior information,Valsad police carried out the checking of the vehicle and found 168 small and big bottles of IMFL worth Rs 62,000.
