National Moot Court Competition kicks off

Rashtriya Rakhsha University (RRU)’s School of National Security and Law hosted its first-ever National Moot Court Competition on Wednesday with 120 law students from across 18 states in the country coming under one roof.

Sonia Gokani, former chief justice of the Gujarat High Court, said “All of us are eagerly waiting for Chandrayaan-3 to land today. It makes us all so proud as Indians that we are going to have a major success story as far as the scientific advancement is concerned. I feel that once being a science student, when I chose to go for the law, a veteran in the field told me that it was going to be an excellent combination… ‘you must have a scientific temper and attitude then you can dissect the law beautifully’.” Hours after her remark, India made history with Chandrayaan-3 landing on the south pole of the Moon.

The competition’s theme was centered around the Economic and Financial Security of India. RRU Vice-Chancellor Bimal K Patel, the theme aligns with upcoming G20 Summit under India’s presidency, and the national ambition to achieve self-sufficiency on the global stage by 2047. Prof Patel told The Indian Express that “calculating ‘per capita income is an old measure of calculating a country and rather we should take ‘purchasing power parity’ (PPP) as a yardstick as it is more accurate.” The competition will continue on Thursday with quarterfinals and semifinals and the finals will take place on Friday.
