It’s a coincidence that the BJP came to power at a time when some of you joined the party. It is like giving credit to somebody who hits the goal from the D in a football or a hockey game. Unfortunately, the players who dribbled the ball along for a long time to bring it to the D box do not get recognition at all.
Undertaking a development activity is not good governance by itself. All governments have to and will take up some development activity. What we have to emphasise is good governance.
Know your job thoroughly. Anticipate things and prepare an action plan. Do not allow yourselves to be misguided by vested interests.
Clarity of thought, meticulous and methodical action, simplicity and humility in conduct and behaviour these are some of the qualities that will enhance the ministers and thereby the governments image.
These are some of the nuggets of advice Chief Minister Narendra Modi is learnt to have offered to ministerial colleagues of his Karnataka counterpart B S Yeddyurappa during the three-day training session at Suttur,a temple town near Mysore.
The ministerial colleagues have been asked to show effective performance in a time-bound manner for meeting the high expectations of the people.
Apparently floored by such valuable advice, the Karnataka BJP has now decided to have such brainstorming sessions every six months, according to BJP spokesman C T Ravi.
Such thinking is going on, he said, however, adding that it is a bit too early to look for any results. It will take at least two months for the result of the training to show, he added.
Karnataka BJP president D V Sadananda Gowda is also firm on having such sessions at regular intervals. He also refuses to agree to the suggestion that through such sessions, the party is trying to interfere in governance. There is no such criticism in Karnataka, he said.
For the greenhorns in the government and the party, the meet was not only educative but also cleared several doubts.
About the positive impact of the meeting on the participants,Gowda said that after three months, the results will start showing. We will see after three months what results it (the meeting) will give, he said when asked if the sessions were going to be a regular feature in the state.
Karnataka Public Works Minister C M Udasi was full of praise for Modi, particularly about his advice on discipline and firmness in decision-making,humility and punctuality, among others. He gave some very good advice on how to extract work from officers and how to conduct administrative work in a time-bound manner, Udasi added.
