Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project: NHSRCL completes viaduct launch over Girdhar Nagar ROB in just 12 days

The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has completed the launching of the viaduct over the Girdhar Nagar Railway Over Bridge (ROB) on the Delhi–Ahmedabad main line of the Western Railway in Ahmedabad. The work, which is part of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor bullet train project, has been completed within 12 days.

The NHSRCL said 19 segments were launched to complete the 45-metre span of the viaduct that runs parallel to the existing railway line. The span was launched on September 15, over the two-lane Girdhar Nagar ROB, which is one of the busiest in Ahmedabad, connecting Shahibaug, Aswara and Kalupur.

“It is a vital daily route for thousands of commuters residing in Ahmedabad. To ensure minimal disturbance to the public, the launching work over this flyover was meticulously planned and executed in just 12 days, well within the block period taken till September 20,” said NHSRCL in a statement.

The work involved launching a 45-metre-long bridge using the Span-by-Span (SBS) method, officials said, adding that the total weight of the span was 1200 metric tonnes. “To further reduce inconvenience to the public, all necessary safety and traffic management measures were implemented which included proper barricading, traffic diversion signages, timely publication of route diversion information, deployment of adequate traffic marshals, and provision of sufficient lighting during night hours,” the corporation said.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor passes over 31 crossings in Ahmedabad district, which includes eight Indian Railways crossings, 16 points involving road flyovers, besides roads, underpasses, and canals, a river bridge crossing over the Sabarmati, and six steel bridges. Of these, work on 15 crossings has been completed so far.

The bullet train project extends across 508 km, of which viaduct work has been completed on 323 km and pier work on 399 km. More than 4 lakh noise barriers have also been installed along 210 km.
