Govt says no harm if it saves time which can be utilised for betterment of people
Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly,Shaktisinh Gohil on Monday accused Chief Minister Narendra Modi of wasting crores of public money for air travel, and using the State Information Department for personal publicity. He was speaking during the debate on the supplementary demands of the General Administration Department (GAD).
Gohil said Modi talked of the Mahatma Gandhi Mandir (temple),but continued to waste crores of rupees on air travel. Is this the simplicity of a CM? Gandhiji used to travel in third class rail while the CM never even prefers common airlines, but only private planes like industrialists. He calls himself an RSS Pracharak. Is this his simplicity? said Gohil.
State Finance Minister Vaju Vala said: There is nothing wrong in travelling by air and saving time for the betterment of the people. In last 10 years we have given enough time for the development of the state which is visible. Opposition should come out of the old idea that leaders should not use air travel.
To Gohils allegations of the CM misusing the State Information Department for individual publicity,Health Minister,Jay Narayan Vyas, also the state government spokesperson ,said that Congress has in the past used the information department.
Vaju Vala further refuted Gohils allegations that the state government is sidelining competent and honest IAS officials and giving prime posting to corrupt officials, and also misusing the state election commission for political gains. Vala said the commission is an autonomous body and government has no interference in its functioning.
