The son of former Surat city BJP Minority Morcha vice-president Jamil Ahmed Ansari was arrested on Thursday in a case of seizure of Mephedrone (MD) drugs worth Rs 35.49 lakh. This comes after Jamil was suspended from the party on July 24 after his son Mohammed Rehan Jamil Ahmed Ansari's (26) name cropped up during investigation of the case. Acting on a tip-off, the Surat Special Operation Group (SOG) on Thursday evening picked up Mohammed – who was absconding in the case – while he was trying to pass by the Kapleta check post in an autorickshaw. Following this, he was brought to the police station and arrested. He was on Friday produced before a court, which sent him to three-day police custody. Hindu Yuva Vahini's Surat city president Vikas Ahir was arrested in the drug seizure case on July 22. The police said that Mohammed's name cropped up during investigation after the SOG raided a private hotel in Surat on July 22 and arrested Chetan Shahu (22), a resident of Udaipur, while seizing 354.91 gm of MD worth Rs 35.49 lakh. During questioning, Shahu disclosed the names of Ahir, Anish Khan Pathan and Mohammed, who were to receive the consignment of drugs. On July 22 itself, Ahir and Anish were arrested while Mohammed went underground. When contacted, Surat city BJP Minority Morcha president Mohsin Mirza said, “After we learnt that the name of our minority wing vice-president's son has name cropped up in the investigation, we suspended Jamil from the party on July 24. We don’t want our minority wing to be defamed.” Surat SOG Inspector A P Chaudhary said, “We are looking for other accused in the case. This seems to be a new modus operandi that the accused are following. Till date, MD was brought from Mumbai to Surat, but in this case, the drugs were brought to Surat from Rajasthan.”
