A man, along with his younger brother, allegedly threw acid on his wife and her elder sister while they were asleep in Dhandhusar village in Junagadh district early Wednesday, injuring them seriously. The man, Amit Makwana, has been detained, said police. The attack came around one-and-a-half month after Amit, suspecting his wife Sejal's character, allegedly fractured her hand and leg during a quarrel at their home in Manavadar town of Junagadh. The Vanthali police said Sejal and her elder sister Hetal Solanki suffered burns after Amit and his brother Kishan Makwana allegedly threw acid on them. While Sejal suffered burns in her left eye, face, chest and left hand, her sister suffered burns in her face and right eye. The incident allegedly took place around 3 am when Sejal and Hetal were asleep in a cottage on a mango orchard belonging to a person named Dhiru Mer at Dhandhusar village in Vanthali. The police said that Sejal’s father Magan Zala was living in the cottage after accepting a contract of harvesting mangoes. Hetal, who is married to a man living in Bhesan village of Junagadh, had come to Dhandhusar to enquire about Sejal’s health when the incident took place. “We have picked up the main accused and he is being questioned,” an officer with Vanthali police told The Indian Express. Based on a police complaint filed by Sejal, an FIR was registered by Vanthali police. Amit, Kishan and three unidentified men were booked under sections 232(a) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid, etc), 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), and other sections of the Indian Penal Code.
