A 34-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly raping a one-and-half year old girl in Ahmedabad. He was sent to the Ahmedabad Central Jail on Tuesday.
The accused, Jay Halder (34), hailed from Sahapur town in West Bengal’s Howrah district, and was working as a labourer in Ahmedabad, the police said.
Inspector C G Joshi of Vadaj police station said, “The accused lured the girl into his room on the pretext of giving her a biscuit on Monday. After being informed about the incident, we reached the spot immediately. The man was arrested the same night… On Tuesday, we produced him before court, which sent him to judicial custody.”
Halder has been charged under section 363 (kidnapping) and 376AB (rape on woman under 12 years of age) of the Indian Penal Code as well as under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
