Kheda district police on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly abetting the suicide of a woman who had previously filed a complaint of sexual harassment and stalking against him. The woman, who died by suicide on August 14, left behind a note naming the accused for blackmailing and intimidating her. According to the family of the deceased, the accused had allegedly sexually harassed the complainant in March this year, after which, she lodged an FIR against him. In her suicide note, the victim stated that she has been "forced to end life" as the accused continues to "threaten and blackmail about harming her daughters and husband" unless she "complied with his demands" of having a "relationship" with him. Officers at the police station, where the woman lodged a complaint against the accused under IPC Section 354 for sexual harassment and stalking in March this year, said that the accused was arrested and even chargesheeted in the case, but continued to harass the woman. The complainant's husband had told the police that despite the FIR lodged against him in March, the accused continued to stalk his wife and harass her over the phone with "lewd messages and indecent proposals" from unknown numbers. On Wednesday, the accused was produced in a local court and received four days of police remand for further investigation. The police have told the court that the mobile phones of the accused have to be sent for forensic examination in order to verify the text messages and calls mentioned by the victim in her note and in the statements of the family.
