Mahesh Vasava, an MLA from Dediapada in Narmada district who held the post of Bhartiya Tribal Party (BTP) national president, quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday, ending his nine-month association with the saffron party. Mahesh Vasava is the son of veteran tribal patriarch leader Chhotu Vasava.

Talking to The Indian Express Mahesh Vasava said, “I joined the BJP so that public benefits works of my areas would be done, but nothing was done even on my recommendations. I have worked during the Lok Sabha elections and campaigned for party candidate and sitting MP Mansukh Vasava and he won. After the election results were announced, the party leaders did not invite me for any party workers’ meeting or public meeting. They have intentionally distanced themselves from me. I will work for the BTP and in the coming days, a political earthquake will come and Bharuch will be epicentre.”

Mahesh Vasava and former Congress MLA from Palanpur in Banaskantha (2017), Mahesh Patel, had joined the BJP on March 11, 2024, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Both these leaders, accompanied by over 2,000 supporters, had joined the party at Kamalam office in Gandhinagar and were welcomed by state BJP president Paatil.

After joining the BJP, Mahesh Vasava, in his statement to the media, heaped praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He said, “The work which had not been done by the Congress since long, was done by the BJP in the last decade.”

In his resignation letter sent to Paatil, Mahesh Vasava says, “I salute Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar on his birthday, who had written constitution of India. In the present times, we see the India is not running with constitution. I wanted to say that Adivassi, Dalit, OBC and Muslim, Christian, Shikh, will all walk together and fight together against the ideology of RSS and BJP. It is a long battle and for that we should be united and not to fight internally.” A copy of the letter is with The Indian Express.
