Impressed by the development of Sabarmati Riverfront here, BJP patriarch L K Advani Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had paid “true tribute” to the “saint of Sabarmati” Mahatma Gandhi through this project. He was addressing BJP workers and leaders during the BJP’s “Vikas Parv” celebrations on one of the grounds on the Riverfront to mark the second anniversary of the governments of Modi and Anandiben Patel. Advani hailed Modi and CM Patel for doing a “great” job by giving a new lease of life to the river, associated with the Mahatma.
He said, “I invite everyone you know to visit this place and I am sure you’d not be just in a situation to say ‘Sabarmati ke sant tuney kar diya kamaal’, but you’ll also be in a position to say, ‘Gujarat ke Narendrabhai, Anandiben aapne kar diya kamaal’.”

Advani appealed to the party cadres to invite people from across the country to have a look at the grand Riverfront project. “In the past, I came here and visited the Sabarmati Ashram. At that time, I heard the prayer song ‘Sabarmati ke sant tuney kar diya kamaal’, which is dedicated to Gandhiji. But the Sabarmati river was in bad shape at that time. It looked like a drain,” Advani said. He said the Riverfront project had changed the look of the river completely.
“I wish that all the rivers in India be developed like Sabarmati river. Modi has paid true tributes to the ‘Saint of Sabarmati’(Gandhiji) through this project,” added Advani.
CM Anandiben Patel, in her address, mentioned the success of several schemes launched by both Centre and Gujarat governments. She said, “Since Independence, tell me one Congress PM who had appealed to give up their LPG subsidy so that the poor can get free connection. They’d do so if their brain worked. Secondly, if they do not have this affection and respect among the public for PM, no matter how many appeals they will make, no one will accept it.” She said that under the Ujala scheme launched in Gujarat on Thursday, 1.21 lakh LED bulbs had been bought in the last 12 hours.
She said that all major projects, like raising the height of Narmada dam gates, rehabilitation work, release of water, construction of toilets will be done ahead of the stipulated time. She said that by the end of 2017, there will not be a single village without 100 per cent toilets.
Union Minister of State for HRD Ram Shankar Katheria and BJP national secretary Suresh Pujari were also present at the celebrations. Suresh Pujari, while lauding PM Modi and CM Patel during his address, said that the day was not far when Bharat Mata ki jai will be heard in Pakistan too.
