Over 75 families displaced from Saputara hills nearly four decades ago have threatened to launch a stir against the state government for issuing a notice to vacate the area in Navagam where they were shifted.

The residents have given a call for chakka jam on Sunday as mark of protest against the notice. They have also threatened to take to self-immolation if their demands are not met soon. Their demands include putting their names in the Revenue Department records as owners of the house allotted to them during rehabilitation and allotting a plot for business at Saputara.

According to details ,the government had,39 years ago, acquired 450 acres in Saputara hills to develop it as a tourist destination. Post-acquirement,over 75 families were shifted to Navagam, two kilometres from Saputara,in houses constructed by the Gujarat housing board. But they say their names do not figure in Revenue records as houseowners. At present, over 200 families reside in the area.
