A labourer was killed in a landslide at an under-construction site in the Odhav area of Ahmedabad Sunday. As per a senior officer of Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services, the incident was reported around 11 am near Manmohan crossroads.
The officer stated, “We received a call at around 11.12 am about a landslide at an under-construction site where excavation work was being conducted without any safety measures or supervision. Two labourers were trapped, and we rescued both of them. One of them was conscious, while the other was unconscious.”
According to Odhav police inspector P N Zinzuvadiya, the two labourers were identified as Galiya Thavra Damor and Lalu Soma Damor, both in their 30s and native of Jalore in Rajasthan. Zinzuvadiya said the two were shifted to Singarava government hospital, where Lalu Soma Damor was declared dead.
Zinzuvadiya also said they are in the process of registering a case of accidental death. He added that investigations are ongoing to ascertain if proper safety measures were taken or not at the construction site and that the decision to register an offence will be made accordingly.
