Kin meet freed Surat traders in China town

The Surat diamond merchants acquitted by a Chinese court in Shenzhen are yet to come out of the jail since the release procedure is still to complete.

The Surat diamond merchants acquitted by a Chinese court in Shenzhen are yet to come out of the jail since the release procedure is still to complete.

The family members of the 13 acquitted merchants,however,were allowed to meet them at a hotel in the Chinese town and spend some time with them.

The Shenzhen court,a few days ago,had announced verdict acquitting 13 diamond merchants from Surat and Mumbai. The court ordered one to six years imprisonment for the seven others detainees.

According to reports,the acquitted traders had submitted their passports and given bank guarantees before they were released last week after spending almost two years in jail.

Those who were released have been identified as Sameer Shah,Jigar Mehta,Nehal Shah,Jogani Mahendra,Shripal Parikh,Shrenik Parikh,Vishal Mehta,Paranik Parikh,Priten Doshi,Ankit Shah,Taral Parekh,Parth Shah and Viral Shah.

Those who were convicted have been identified as Dharamveer Patel,Dhaval Patel,Shah Nishit,Mitulkumar Chhunchha and Patel Vipul,each of them were sentenced for three years in jail. Court ordered three years and six months imprisonment for Rishit Patel,five years imprisonment for both Bavishi Raju and Soni Amitkumar,and six years imprisonment for Rajesh Jain.

Rajubhai Shah,whose nephew Viral Shah was in jail,said,“We are very much happy with the decision as we have got him back home. But we have to wait for some more days. The officials had seized the passports and taken bank guarantee from those who had been released.”

“We all faced problems in meeting them when they were in jail. But now we are happy. Those who are convicted are also working hard to convince the court to give relaxations.”

Dinesh Shah,father of another released Parth,said,“We are very much happy. After a long time we were in a situation to talk to each other. Parth also met his wife Reema. We don’t have words to express our feelings on the valuable moments which we are spending with our son right now. We have decided to visit religious places in Gujarat.”
