Job fair for differently abled held in Ahmedabad

The fair turned out to be a huge success with the placement of 350 candidates by 17 local companies (mostly IT-related),and will now onwards be held twice a year,in June-July and in December.

A good response was noticed from the women candidates. “Their participation turned out to be around 30-35 percent,” said BPA Director Bhushan Punani.

All the 160 institutes for the physically-challenged across the state were invited to the fair and the recruiters were roped in to offer jobs of data entry,lift operators,toy makers and animators with salaries ranging from Rs 3,000 to 6,000 a month.

Among the largest recruiters at the fair were Scan Infotech,which employed 150 disabled persons for data entry,computer operations,lamination as well as pasting and filing work; followed by Apang Manav Mandal (50) and Safal Infrastructure (20).

Punani said: “The companies have to be told that they should recruit the differently-baled persons not because they are disabled,but for the capabilities they have.”

He added: “The fair has been organised with the aim to break the ice with the recruiters. Once the physically-challenged are accepted as part of the work atmosphere,the disabled-friendly infrastructure will also evolve. First we want to make jobs available for them.”

The names of the differently-abled persons,who had registered for the fair but could not get a job,would be uploaded in the databank on the placement website http://www.sdindia.com.
