The Vadodara city police on Thursday notified the closure of two major Railway Overbridges (ROB) for at least a month, until February 17, to undertake the work of mastic resurfacing. The Jetalpur bridge and a part of the Lalbaug bridge connecting Pratapnagar to Vishwamitri will remain closed to vehicular traffic beginning Saturday (January 17). An issued notification states that the road closures had "become necessary to allow the mastic resurfacing work" to be undertaken by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation. Although the notification states that the bridges will remain closed until February 17, the period of closure "could be revised" based on the completion of the work. The Vadodara city traffic police also provided alternate roads to motorists instead of the two bridges that connect major roads. While the Jetalpur bridge connects Sayajigunj to Akota and Alkapuri, the Lalbaug bridge — with four exit points — connects Vishwamitri, Rajmahal Road, Pratpnagar and Manjalpur. As per the notification of the Vadodara city police, the alternate routes for Jetalpur bridge is the alternate Jetalpur underpass, the Alkapuri railway underpass, or opting to use the Akota-Dandia Bazar bridge to travel from Jail Road to Akota, OP Road, and Alkapuri. For the closure of the Vishwamitri and Pratapnagar ends of the Lalbaug flyover, the Vadodara city police have provided alternate routes from the Avdhoot railway crossing to Manjalpur crematorium via Manjalpur village and Tulsidham to Pratapnagar. Similarly, motorists can travel from the Avdhoot railway crossing to Motibaug from under the Lalbaug bridge. The two ends of the Lalbaug flyover connecting Motibaug to Manjalpur will remain open.
