IOC boat gets stuck in low tide

A Boat belonging to the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Limited got stuck in low tide near Dabka,a few kilometres away from Padra.

A Boat belonging to the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Limited got stuck in low tide near Dabka,a few kilometres away from Padra. This is the second such incident of an IOC vessel getting stuck in shallow waters due to tidal change.

The incident occurred when two boats carrying a container were coming back after unloading the cargo in a vessel anchored in the sea. By the time the two boats returned,one of them got stuck in the shallow waters. IOC officials are now waiting for the high tide to set the boat afloat.

When asked about the cargo in the boats,the Public Relation Officer ignored the incident.

“I don’t know anything about it. The material keeps coming everyday. We don’t keep track of it,” said VH Nagarkar,Public Relation Officer,IOC,Gujarat.

Deputy General Manager P K Mandal said,“I am not the right person for this information.”

In December 2008,two boats carrying an IOC reactor were washed ashore near Dhuaran in Khambat during high tide. The boats were anchored at the Mojpur jetty near Dhuaran.

The reactor was brought from Japan and was being moved from Kandla to the refinery in Koily,when a high tide drifted the boats in the Mahisagar river. After the tide subsided,the reactor was found stuck at Dhuaran.

At that time,the IOC officials had to wait for the high tide to move the 760 tonne and 35 metres long reactor.

The reactor was meant for residue upgradation of MS and HSD as part of the Rs 5,693 crore quality improvement project at Gujarat refinery.
