Industry in south Gujarat faces gas shortage

Industry in southern Gujarat is facing gas shortage following sub-sea leakage in the pipeline coming from the Panna-Mukta and Tapti (PMT) oil and gas fields,industry sources said.

President of Ankleshwar Industry Association Pramod Patel said,“The gas supply has been short for last few days”.

GAIL India,which markets the gas produced from PMT fields located off shores in Gujarat,declared a Force Majeaure and effected a pro-rata cut on all its customers including Gujarat Gas which caters to industry in south Gujarat,industry sources said.

Gujarat Gas,which is subsidiary of UK’s BG Group,is getting 40 per cent lesser gas than the contracted quantity with GAIL,sources in the industry said. They added that following which the supply to southern Gujarat has been impacted.

“There are two sub-sea pipelines of 36 and 42 inches coming from PMT and ending near Hazira (at Ubharat),which supply gas to Gujarat and are being maintained by JV Group,which is part of Reliance,BG Group and ONGC consortium,” senior ONGC official said.

UK’s BG Group,Reliance Industries and Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) have stopped crude oil production from the PMT oil and gas fields following the leakage,industry sources said.

Gas production has been impacted with output falling from around 14 million standard cubic metres per day to 9 mmscmd,they said.
