After the completion of the first round of training of drivers for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, the second and final round began on Thursday. A group of 37 drivers, chosen and trained by the Western India Automobile Association (WIAA),will undergo a more vigorous training on adhering strictly to time schedule, said municipal commissioner I P Gautam. He,however, refrained from giving a specific date from when the service will go operational. In the final phase of the training programme, they will also be trained to maintain maximum 10 cm difference between the platform and the entrance of the bus when they stop their bus, he said, adding that the slow movement in the first phase of trial run was because of encroachments on the route. He said the hurdles faced in the first phase of the trial runs have been removed and now the clear picture would emerge. Gautam said the work on the Pirana-Dhor Bazaar-Danilimda phase would take some more time as the digging and the filling work required there was completed recently. Shrinivas Desai of WIAA said the institute had trained the drivers some time back, but it was not connected with the ongoing trial runs.
